How to Hire the Right Videographer for Your Colorado Wedding

Capturing the special moments of your wedding day is important to couples. Photographs are great at capturing the story but video captures things that a still image just can’t. A video is a much more immersive experience because you can capture the sounds and motions that accompany the moments. The first dance is an intimate moment for the couple, but to be able to hear the music, the collective sigh of joy from the guests, and see the father of the bride wiping a tear as he watches his daughter dance with her new spouse adds so much more to the moment.

We’ve put together some tips to help you choose a videographer to capture the special moments and feel of your big day.

Do your research.

Don’t just go with the videographer your cousin used. This is your big day. It’s ok to make a list of recommendations from family and friends but take the time to also make a list of the videographers that you like their work. Their website is a good place to start. You and your partner will also be able to get a sense of the style of video you want as you look through their portfolios.

Read their reviews.

The reviews and testimonials on their website are probably all glowing. Venture out and see what couples are saying about them on several websites. Some popular ones are The Knot and WeddingWire.

Ask your wedding planner for recommendations.

Weeding through all the many videographers you find on the internet can be overwhelming. Just because they have beautiful work on their website doesn’t mean they are easy to work with. An experienced wedding planner will have a list of vendors and will be able to give you some good recommendations.

Hire a professional videographer.

Maybe the best man’s brother loves to shoot video and has offered to do your wedding for a deal that is too good to pass up. Little did you know his video expertise is from TikTok. A professional will have the skills to create a wedding day video you will love.

Hire a local videographer.

An experienced professional who has shot in the local area will be familiar with the venues and other locations. They will know where to catch the most stunning shots and can make recommendations based on your ideas.

Read the contract thoroughly.

I can’t stress this enough. If you don’t understand something, ask. Copyright details - specify who owns the rights to the video shot. Non-disparagement clauses - you aren’t allowed to leave a negative review. Total cost, overtime fees, deposit amounts and dates. Cancellation, rescheduling and refund policy. If you don’t see it, ask.
