February is National Wedding Month

February is truly the month of love! With Valentine’s Day taking place on the 14th and seasonal snowstorms leading to cozy nights bundled up together, it’s no wonder February was deemed National Wedding Month. This is an entire month dedicated to the celebration of unconditional love, weddings, and the beginning of new chapters. And as wedding planners, you can bet we’re feeling the love all month long!

February is the Month of Love

When people think of romance, Valentine’s Day is typically one of the first days that come to mind. Although today the holiday is celebrated with ornates boxes of chocolates, bouquets of roses, and heartfelt cards, the actual origins of Valentine’s Day are quite different. Dating back to ancient Roman times, the history of Saint Valentine is a little murky, but all of the legends describe the character as a champion of lovers. It wasn’t until the Middle Ages that people started exchanging love letters and then the holiday began to form its familiar shape in the 1700s. After the first batch of Valentine’s Day cards were mass-produced in the 1840s, the day of romance took off and became the celebration that we know and love today.

When is Wedding Season?

In the United States, the peak season for couples to get hitched is between June and September, but that doesn’t mean winter weddings are off the table. In fact, Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular days of the year to get married. The rest of February is fairly quiet, except for those couples with a sense of humor who choose to get married on February 29th, which only happens every four years on a leap year. Most of the romantic action that takes place in February is based around wedding planning, since this is the time after the hustle and bustle of Christmas and New Years when engaged couples get serious about setting dates, booking venues, and finding vendors.

Best for Brides on a Budget

While most couples are just starting to get serious about wedding planning in February, others know that this is secretly one of the best months to get married! Plenty of people shy away from winter weddings because of the weather, but there are plenty of advantages to foregoing the summer soiree for an intimate white wonderland wedding. First of all, you won’t have to worry about a makeup meltdown in the cooler temps, plus you’ll be able to take incredible couples portraits in the snow. Another hidden benefit is the fact that the overall cost of your celebration could be significantly lower since vendors and venues charge less in the off-seasons. One other big perk is the savings you’ll get to pass on to your guests. Think about it - summer is the prime time season for weddings and traveling, which means airfare and hotels will be significantly cheaper for your friends and family. Your guests will have a blast and you will too knowing that they didn’t have to pay an arm and a leg to enjoy the big day with you and your partner.
