Wedding Planner vs. Wedding Coordinator: Wedding Support at Any Level You Need

Your wedding day will likely come with lots of nerves and excitement. Not only are you taking a big step with your partner, you’re throwing a party to celebrate the event! As any party host knows, things rarely go exactly as planned and there are often little problems that may arise throughout the course of your party planning and the celebration. This is also true of weddings.

Unless you’re a party planner by trade or a regular host, your wedding will likely be the biggest party you ever throw. The process can feel intimidating, and many weddings take 9-12 months to plan. Hiring wedding support can save you time and headaches when bringing your big day to life. Finding the wedding support that’s right for you and your partner depends on how much help you’re looking for. If you’re a planning pro and want to handle the little details, you may need less help than someone who feels overwhelmed by the planning process.

There are a variety of options for support with your wedding, but they typically fall into two categories: a wedding planner or a wedding coordinator.

Wedding Coordinator

A wedding coordinator provides support for your day-of celebration and oftentimes the handful of days leading up to your big event. A coordinator usually doesn’t provide any kind of planning support in the months leading up to your wedding, and acts more as a Person In Charge on the day of your event. This allows you and your soon-to-be-spouse to leave the little details and putting out any fires that pop up to someone else.

A wedding coordinator is a great option if you’ve handled the planning of your celebration, but want to enjoy your wedding day without distraction or stress. Unlike handing control over to a trusted family member or friend, a wedding coordinator has the wedding experience to handle all the little problems that may arise on your big day. Experience with decor, wedding parties, wedding schedules, guests, and vendors means you can trust your coordinator to keep everything running smoothly so you can focus on what’s really important: sharing your love with your partner, family, and friends.

Wedding Planner

A wedding planner provides more support than a wedding coordinator and is typically involved in the wedding planning process from start to finish. A wedding planner can help you:

  • create a budget

  • find a venue

  • find vendors

  • create your theme

  • plan decor

  • handle the logistics of travel and accommodation for family and friends

A wedding planner fulfills all the same responsibilities as a wedding coordinator on your wedding day, and also provides support and experience throughout the entire planning process.

Hiring a wedding planner is a good idea for couples who don’t want to handle all the aspects of planning a wedding by themselves. A planner offers guidance and support to help you create the wedding of your dreams without the stress and uncertainty of planning on your own.
