Hair Tips For Your Cancun Beach Wedding

One of the best parts of planning a wedding is imagining how your wedding look will come together. While the focus of a wedding look is often on the dress, your hair, makeup, and accessories can also play a big part in how your wedding outfit comes together. And when you are having a beach wedding ceremony or beach reception the ocean breeze is a factor in the experience as well as the photos or video. Here are four hair tips to keep in mind while planning your Cancun beach wedding.

Let the Beach Inspire You

A beach wedding is the perfect time to let your hair down! Maybe not literally, as an updo is a great way to keep your hair out of your face as you dance the night away, but beach weddings tend to be a more casual affair than a formal church or venue wedding. Channel some of the relaxed, tropical atmosphere of the beach into your styling with soft waves, braids, and ocean-inspired accents.

Find A Local Stylist

Unless you’re planning on flying a stylist from home to Cancun for your wedding, you’ll likely be working with a local hairstylist for your wedding look. While it can be nerve-wracking to book  a stylist you’ve never worked with before, having a stylist who is used to the weather and experienced with beach wedding looks can be a big advantage. We recommend arriving a few days to a week before your wedding and using some of the time for a hair trial with your chosen stylist.

Keep Climate In Mind

Unless you live on a beach at home, you likely will be traveling to a different climate for your wedding in Cancun. Keep this in mind as you plan your hairstyle for your wedding day. Cancun is a more tropical, humid, and hot climate than you may be used to at home, and the weather can have a big impact on your hair, particularly if it’s curly or prone to frizz.

If you’re having your Cancun wedding right on the beach, you may also need to consider the sea breeze that’s common on the coast. If you have a loose updo or are wearing your hair down, it may get caught in the breeze off of the ocean. Keep this in mind when planning your big day and scheduling photos

Do a Practice Run

Once you arrive in Cancun, plan to have a practice run with your hairstylist to ensure that the style that you’re envisioning works with your hair, your dress, and the climate. Like getting a haircut, occasionally what you envision from a picture doesn’t look the way you were hoping when it’s on your head. Doing a practice run before your wedding day allows you more freedom to make changes to your hairstyle without the stress of doing so a few hours before walking down the aisle.

Planning a Cancun beach wedding is easier when you have someone who knows the area and has connections established with local vendors (including hairstylists). Working with a destination wedding planner can make the planning process a breeze. I would love to share my local connections and experience to help you plan the Cancun beach wedding of your dreams!
