Beach Wedding Make-Up Tips from a Cancun Wedding Planner

Cancun is a popular vacation destination, but it also makes a stunning backdrop for a tropical wedding away from home. As a Cancun wedding planner, I’ve helped brides and grooms along every step of the way towards their big day. One of the little details that you should consider when planning your Mexico beach wedding is your make-up! Here are three tips to achieve a stunning, stress-free makeup look for your wedding.

Keep Weather in Mind

One of the reasons to have a destination wedding is to go somewhere different than home and celebrate your love with sun, sand, and warm weather. Which likely means that the climate on the beaches of Cancun will be different than the climate you’re used to when you normally do your hair and makeup. Plan to do a test run of both hair and makeup before your wedding once you get to your destination. Your makeup routine at home might not work with the humidity and climate of Cancun.

Use a Light Hand

Beach weddings tend to be more casual and relaxed than a traditional indoor affair, and your makeup can be, too. Consider the lighting you can expect depending on where your ceremony and reception are taking place. If you’re out on the beach, keep in mind that direct sunshine can make heavy makeup stand out.

If you use a foundation, keep it lightweight or use concealer and a light powder instead of a heavy foundation. Continue the light theme into your eye makeup, as well. While a glamorous eye look can be incredible in other settings, heavy eye makeup for a more casual tropical wedding can seem out-of-place.

Go With Waterproof and Matte Options

With a beach wedding celebration, it’s likely that you will feel the heat throughout your big day. With waterproof makeup options, you won’t have to worry that a little sweat or happy tears will have your mascara sliding down your face. Waterproof mascara is an obvious choice, but consider waterproof blush, concealer, and lipstick, too.

Another tip — keep your makeup choices matte. While you may not notice the subtle shimmer of your blush indoors, the bright sunlight of a beach wedding will bring out all the sparkle. If you’re looking for some shine in your makeup, a shimmery eye shadow can be a beautiful beach wedding look, but shiny lipsticks, blushes, or highlighters will reflect light and can be distracting in-person and in pictures.

Bonus Tip: Take Pictures Early!

Get your wedding party together early and get your pictures done when your hair and makeup are fresh. Once your memories are captured on film, you can say your “I do’s” and dance the night away without worrying about needing to keep your makeup and hair in perfect shape.

Makeup is one of many little details that you’ll need to consider as you prepare for your big day. Planning a destination wedding can feel a little overwhelming at times, but let me reassure you that the effort is worth it. A wedding on the sandy beaches of Cancun can be a memory you and your partner will cherish for a lifetime. If you’re looking for help managing the to-do’s of planning a destination wedding in Mexico, I’d love to make your wedding dreams a reality!
